Still.

A little
less hurry.

Small observations, slow walks,
and notes on ordinary days.

Walking

The longer way home

There is a road I take when I have nowhere else to be. It runs beside the river, behind the shops, and past a bench that always catches the last of the afternoon sun.

Read the note

The shorter route saves twelve minutes. The longer one gives them back in a different form: a conversation outside the bakery, the sound of a bicycle crossing the bridge, a window full of plants.

Nothing remarkable happened today. I took the longer way anyway.

At home

A table by the window

Morning light moves across the kitchen table so slowly that I only notice it when it has already gone. Lately, I have been leaving a little time to sit there.

Read the note

A cup, a book with a folded corner, a branch in a glass jar. The table is not especially beautiful. It is simply a place where there is enough room for the day to begin.

I used to think a routine needed to accomplish something. This one just makes the morning feel like mine.

Small things

After the rain

The city looks a little more like itself after rain. Pavements darken, the air clears, and ordinary things briefly ask to be looked at again.

Read the note

On the corner, a row of umbrellas was drying outside a shop. Each one held a few drops at its edges. I stopped for no good reason and watched them fall.

Perhaps paying attention is less about finding something new than giving an old thing another moment.

Room for the ordinary.

Still is a small corner of the internet for things that are easy to pass by. A walk, a sentence, a quiet afternoon.

No particular destination. Just a place to keep a few things along the way.
